White wines are made from light-skinned grapes - or from dark-coloured grapes with the skins removed from the clear juice at the time of crushing. Whites range from almost colourless through pale straw to gold and amber. They usually darken as they age.
What's WHITE at Eaglehawk Inn ...
Chardonnay
Considered to be the World's most well-known white wine. The flavours found in Chardonnay include apple, peach, citrus, and (with the introduction of oak) smoke and vanilla. Enjoy with poultry and game birds, veal and pork, rabbit fish and pasta preparations which feature cream and/or butter, mushrooms.
Riesling
Germany's most popular white variety, riesling vines grow best in cool-climate regions including Tasmania and higher-altitude vineyards in South Australia and Victoria. Enjoy riesling's delicate fruity and floral flavours with seafood and white meats.
Sauvignon blanc
With the crispness of acid and a complex bouquet, Australian sauvignon blancs complement seafood perfectly. It's particularly good with shellfish - sauv blanc and Tasmanian oysters - superb!
Semillon
The classic white grape variety of Bordeaux in France and Australia's Hunter Valley, semillon makes full-flavoured, long-lived wines. Great with seafood - and big enough to match with a spicy stir-fry or curry.
White Blends
The classic blend of semillon and sauvignon blanc highlights the best of each variety - the acidic nature of sauvignon blanc is balanced by the more full-bodied semillon. Enjoy these wines with seafood, chicken or Asian food.
