Houghton "Jack Mann" Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz 1996
In the history of Western Australian wine there has been no individual greater than Jack Mann. During his legendary reign at Houghton for 51 consecutive vintages, Jack's passion, creative genius and unrelenting search for unique flavour and character led him to create Houghton White Burgundy in 1937, one of Australia's most famous wines. Whilst a true sage of the wine industry, making award winning white, red and fortified wines, his other great love was cricket. Jack gained notoriety as Western Australia's most successful underarm bowler, taking 9/39 in his best game playing for his beloved team, Middle Swan. In 1964, Jack was awarded an MBE in recognition of his achievements and contribution to Western Australian wine.
Deep opaque, bold red colour. Concentrated cabernet lift of red currant and earthy complexity, with underlying blue berry and mulberry provided by the Shiraz. Spicy hints of clove, cinnamon and black pepper with sweet leather and earthy dusty oak. Full-bodied, powerful wine tightly knit with mount-filling textures of fruit and oak which cling to the firm tannin and acid backbone. Showing excellent balance between ripe fruit and sweet tannin, finishing with savory and earthlike characters.

Petaluma Coonawarra Cabernet Merlot 1992
1992 vintage in Coonawarra was warmer than average, but because of late bud burst, was a late ripening year. After some rain in early March, a dry Autumn prevailed to ripen Cabernet Sauvignon (75%) and Merlot (25%) in the Evans Vineyard to high sugar and intense colour and flavour.
Two years in new French oak barriques preceded the bottling of Petaluma 1992 Coonawarra without filtration. Bottled September 1994. One of the better vintages produced .
| Year: | 1992 |
| Region: | Coonawarra, South Australia |
