TASMANIAN WINES: Pinot Gris
The Pinot Gris and the Pinot Grigio are essentially the same wine. 'Gris' (French) and 'Grigrio' (Italian) both meaning "grey". This wine does possess a greyish hue, with main colours ranging from white to light pink. It has two main contrasting styles, the unwooded possessing a crisp, dry lightness and the later-picked style producing a spicier, richer wine (great for cellaring). Pinot Gris is a variety, which ripens quickly in all but cool climates and as a result is well suited to Tasmania. A wine that goes great with Thai Curries.
