A complex and rich wine with butterscotch and savoury overtones. There are background flavours of lemon and melon. Barrel fermentation has imparted fine, subtle oak characters and yeasty complexity, balanced by natural acidity from the cool climate. There is sufficient structure to ensure further rewards from ageing in cool cellars. Andrew Pirie - Winemaker. Enjoy with seafood terrine with cray meat or scallops, poached Atlantic salmon, or richer white meats such as guinea fowl or roast corn-fed chicken.

Summit chardonnay produced from 27 year old chardonnay vines grown on the gravelly crest of Pipers Brook Vineyard. The combination of soil, old vines and low yields together with new barrel ferment produces wine of unusual strength and longevity. It should improve in bottle over the next 15 to 20 years, but is already showing its Merit. Enjoy with salmon and sorrel cream sauce.

The reserve wine is from some of our best chardonnay blocks in the Pipers Brook region. The wine has great complexity and ageing potential, but is already drinking well in 2001.
